Rep. Gabrielle Giffords received the most votes in a recent poll that asked readers which Democrat they would vote for to replace U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl in 2012.
Giffords received 33 percent of the vote in the Phoenix Business Journal’s “Business Pulse” survey last week.
But one reader commented that the long-term effects of Giffords’ injuries from the January shooting spree in Tucson could make her candidacy out of the question.
“Hate to rain on the parade, but it’s not likely to happen,” the reader said. “Where does that leave Arizona? Most likely without a Democrat in the Senate.”
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano came in second, with 23 percent of the vote. However, after the poll was posted, she announced that she would not run.
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon received 11 percent, placing him third.
