Towns with fewer than 100 people are permitted to open polling places at midnight and close as soon as all registered voters have cast ballots.

DIXVILLE NOTCH

Although the Balsams Grand Resort is closed for renovations, it is expected to reopen today to allow Dixville voters to cast their ballots just after the stroke of midnight, Jan. 10, continuing the tradition of the first votes cast in New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation primary election.

Nine registered Dixville voters are expected to cast their ballots at midnight, facilitated by Dixville Town Clerk Rick Erwin and Town Moderator Tom Tillotson.

Since the 1960 election, Dixville has held U.S. presidential election voting at midnight, bringing national attention to the small northern New Hampshire town.
