Andrew Breitbart Dead at 43 1969-2012

One of our conservative friends has died.  May he Rest In Peace.  From all of us at Politisite and Iron Mill News, we offer prayers to the Family.

Politisite provided video for the Tax Day Tea Party in 2009  for Breitbart TV as well as other projects.  Breitbart was gracious enough to link to our site on occasion as well.  He will be missed.

With a terrible feeling of pain and loss we announce the passing of Andrew Breitbart.

Andrew passed away unexpectedly from natural causes shortly after midnight this morning in Los Angeles.

We have lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a dear friend, a patriot and a happy warrior.

Andrew lived boldly, so that we more timid souls would dare to live freely and fully, and fight for the fragile liberty he showed us how to love.

Andrew recently wrote a new conclusion to his book, Righteous Indignation:

I love my job. I love fighting for what I believe in. I love having fun while doing it. I love reporting stories that the Complex refuses to report. I love fighting back, I love finding allies, and—famously—I enjoy making enemies.

Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night.

Andrew is at rest, yet the happy warrior lives on, in each of us.

DRUDGE REPORT 2012®

DEAR READER: In the first decade of the DRUDGEREPORT Andrew Breitbart was a constant source of energy, passion and commitment. We shared a love of headlines, a love of the news, an excitement about what’s happening. I don’t think there was a single day during that time when we did not flash each other or laugh with each other, or challenge each other. I still see him in my mind’s eye in Venice Beach, the sunny day I met him. He was in his mid 20’s. It was all there. He had a wonderful, loving family and we all feel great sadness for them today… MDRUDGE

Andrew RIP – By Jonah Goldberg

I walked out of the studio at Fox only to have a producer greet me at the door and tell me the wires were reporting Andrew had died. I walked around, dazed for a few minutes. A booker asked me if I could hang around for reaction. I said yes, foolishly. I went on. Bill Hemmer asked me some questions. I don’t really remember what I said. But I know I started to break down. They showed mercy and let me get off the air.

Andrew wasn’t anything like my best friend. But he was an old and special one. Back in the early days of National Review Online, even before we called it National Review Online, Andrew and I were buddies. It would be years before we’d meet in the flesh, but we would Instant Message (these were the AOL days) all the time and talk occasionally by phone. We were the same age (about a month apart), with very similar backgrounds, interests, and senses of humor. His Instant Messager handle was “Bodiaz” and he was one of those names in my “buddies list” that was always there (the only other being more omnipresent was Kathryn’s), because he was always awake. He was working for Matt Drudge and I was groping around trying to figure out where the fuse box was on this Internet thing. He was a huge fan of NRO and helped in countless ways behind the scenes to help me and us when he could. When he was asked to create the Huffington Post, he based it in large part on the Corner.

Andrew Breitbart: Bulldog for the Cause – The Rush Limbaugh Show

RUSH: A few words about Andrew Breitbart. I’ve known Andrew Breitbart since the 1990s when he was working with Matt Drudge to help produce that page, the Drudge Report, each and every day. He grew up in West Los Angeles, surrounded by liberals, father-in-law Orson Bean, the comedian. Sometime during the 1990s, the early nineties, Breitbart had an awakening. He was constantly questioning what was all around him, which was really extreme liberalism, and he became, as many of you in the audience know, a bulldog. He literally was an indefatigable bulldog for the conservative cause. He did things that nobody else has done on the Internet where there are a lot of players. He accomplished quite a lot, much more than a lot of people.

A lot of people get into the business for a number of reasons. His was to effect change. He really sought to effect change above everything else. A lot of people get into it to make a name for themselves. He was about that, too, of course, but he really was about effecting change, and he did on numerous occasions with ACORN, Anthony Weiner, Shirley Sherrod, just to name three of his most famous examples. But he was a bulldog. He was walking outside his home in his neighborhood in Brentwood just after midnight, keeled over. People had talked to him two hours prior, he sounded perfectly fine. They’re shocked. Family’s stunned. I mean there were some reports of health problems, but there was no indication of this.

Andrew Breitbart’s Unfinished Quest for a Punk Rock Republican – Business – The Atlantic Wire

Then Breitbart created his sites Big Government, Big Journalism, and Big Hollywood — all the pillars of the culture he wanted to take back. In 2009, he found a new mentee, a college kid named James O’Keefe, whose viral (and selectively edited) videos of himself getting advice from ACORN on importing hookers inspired congressional legislation, liberally sprinkled with shots of O’Keefe dressed up as a cartoonish pimp. It ultimately crippled the organization. And it also introduced a merry prankster style to Breitbart’s work that had a pattern of inflicting collateral damage — such as Department of Agriculture bureaucrat Shirley Sherrod who was forced to resign for another selectively edited video clips — but always grabbing attention.

It’s sort of fitting that his biggest accomplishment — at least by his terms — was taking down Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner not for some government scandal, but for sexting. Weiner didn’t resign for breaking laws or even his marriage vows, but simply for looking like an idiot. He had, at least for one Congressman in New York, reversed the hardfast cultural dynamic that the Frankfurt School had deviously orchestrated.

The opening lines of his CPAC speech are a brand of conservativism you’re unlikely to see at the Republican National Convention. They sound like rock song lyrics: “Everything has changed, everything has changed in the last few years, conservatives used to take it and we’re not taking it anymore.” He sounded like angry kids railing against oppressive suburban culture. But he also acknowledged that he didn’t quite fit in with the conservative movement and a party that shows no signs of edging closer to his right-wing punk aesthetic.”Two hundred of us went out to the Occupy people to stand toe-to-toe with them to say, ‘We are here and we are not going to take your [artful hand gesture].’ I didn’t say it, I’m on TV right now, I’m a respectful conservative and my mom is watching.”

DEVASTATING: Andrew Breitbart, R.I.P.

I just confirmed with someone close to him that social media entrepreneur and conservative warrior Andrew Breitbart has passed away.

I’m stunned. He was kinetic, brash, relentless, full of fight, the bane of the Left, and a mentor to the next generation of right-wing activists and citizen journalists.

Please keep his family in your prayers.
