Politician wants Police Authority to inspect Guns in Your Home

A Democrat in Swampscott, Massachusetts, Barry Greenfield, wants to give local police the authority to inspect firearms in a residents home to make sure they are in compliance with the law that says Massachusetts gun owners must keep their firearms locked up or rendered nonoperational.

Here is another example of the lefts ultimate addenda, to keep full control over the lives of those who believe in the second amendment to keep and bear arms.

Oh and just for Giggles, Barry Greenfield has written for the Atlantic – Figures!

And what is Greenfield’s motivation? Oh yes, to protect the children!

This from the SwampScott Patch:

come_backThe selectman said state law requires Massachusetts gun owners to keep their firearms locked away or rendered inoperable.

The problem, he said, is that police do not have the authority, granted by a local ordinance, to enforce the law and inspect the safeguarding of guns at the homes of the 600 registered gun owners in town.

The selectman said he has spoken with Swampscott Police Chief Ron Madigan about this.

“We need the ability to enforce the state law,” the selectman said.

May I say slippery Slope?

Here is the Current Massachusetts Law:

Section 131L. (a) It shall be unlawful to store or keep any firearm, rifle or shotgun including, but not limited to, large capacity weapons, or machine gun in any place unless such weapon is secured in a locked container or equipped with a tamper-resistant mechanical lock or other safety device, properly engaged so as to render such weapon inoperable by any person other than the owner or other lawfully authorized user. For purposes of this section, such weapon shall not be deemed stored or kept if carried by or under the control of the owner or other lawfully authorized user.

Guess they have no problem with ‘Keeping’ Arms just as long as one does not ‘Bear’ it, even in ones own home.

Oh, and make sure you don’t call Barry a Democrat… He wants you to know he is in a non-partisan political job!  O.K. Barry, but can you answer me which Republican advocates home inspections for Firearm safety?

You know what happens every time the right talks about voter fraud and voter ID issues?  That’s Right, they Left points out the statistics of Voter fraud in America and calls the Rights attempt at finding a solution to a non-existent problem.

Interesting that the same could be said about Gun Safety Inspections as the Incidence of Gun deaths is significantly lower than many other injuries leading to death in ones home, AND, Gun Violence and death have gone down (not up) in recent years.

Others pointed to much bigger statistical dangers facing children on a daily basis, asking if police would begin inspections on everyday mundane items.

“Given that drowning is 4x more likely than a firearms accident, shouldn’t police be inspecting pools? But wait, poisoning is 10x more likely than drowning – how about police check under our sinks?” Steve L said.

While no one doubts Greenfield’s concern over children’s safety, many residents fear his willingness to give up essential liberty in order to provide the illusion of safety is far more dangerous.

Contrary to what is usually heard from the media, school shootings are not actually on the rise, with overall gun murder down 49 percent since 1993. Despite these trends, law-abiding gun owners have continued to face increased persecution.

This point is clear, it is not really about Gun safety, it is about Gun Control.
