Politico is reporting that NBC hired a psychological consultant to find out what makes Meet the Press host tick. Seems MTP has been falling in the ratings and NBC wants to save the Sunday news show that started back in 1947.
The Washington Post says that the MTP meltdown has alarmed top executives and NBCs new president, Deborah Turness, who is concerned that the 67 year old show is dying under Gregory. Last year, NBC took the unusual path by doing a psychological assessment of the show.
The idea, according to a network spokeswoman, Meghan Pianta, was “to get perspective and insight from people who know him best.” But the research project struck some at NBC as odd, given that Gregory has been employed there for nearly 20 years.

–Supposedly “Meet the Press” is about how NBC in that time slot presents, extracts and markets timely content from news-makers. But, in reality, personality has indeed come into play for the Sunday morning shows. These shows — which might otherwise be called “The John McCain Show,” since the Arizona Senator is on all of them more often than ventriloquist Senor Wences was on The Ed Sullivan Show’s 26-year-run — rely on a mix of presentation and strong, newsmaking content to rope in viewers.

No more is Radio or Television hosted by those who can fly by the seat of their pants and maneuver with awesome skill. Media (like politics) is controlled by executives and media consultants who plan every move based on focus groups and polls.
Our hosts have become news readers and media barbies.
